Colour Trends & the Global Financial Crisis

It’s always hard to make a decision about adding colour to your home; it defines the mood of the area and as a result has a lot to do with how you feel in your space.

We've also had uncertain times over the past couple of years with the global financial crisis which has carried through to our personal lives and had a bearing on the way we are planning and decorating.

Dulux have taken this on board and included a range in their 2011-2012 forecast called 'Momentary'. This palette  promotes a sense of comfort and security with an underlying strong sense of family. The refuge is "home" and eating with family and friends has become the new reality.

There is also a new sense of design: a more pared down aesthetic rule, which has lead to vintage purchases and buying products that will endure the test of time.

The 'Momentary' palette includes a selection of soft greys, taupes and earth tones which form an excellent base to your colour scheme.

A great way to achieve variety when selecting a single colour scheme is by using textured finishes like Dulux Design Suede and Design Stone.

Using pastel shades of aqua, mauve or pink as accent colours with cushions and throws will help to soften and complement the scheme bringing a cosy comfortable feel to the pared down space. These colours will bring the neutral palette to life and help to add your own personal touch.
